A 19-year-old man was produced at the Suva Magistrates Court for his alleged involvement in an abduction at Raiwai, Suva, last weekend.
Ledua Vakaloloma was produced before Resident Magistrate Indula Ratnayake, charged with two counts of abduction and four counts of an act with intent to cause grievous harm.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges, saying he was forced to be the driver of the vehicle used on the day of the alleged incident.
He asked if the matter could remain in the Magistrates Court.
The prosecution said one of the victims was still admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
Mr Ratnayake said it was a case of public interest and that the safety of the community could be compromised if the accused was released.
He was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to October 18.
