A FORMER employee of the Ministry of Education, who allegedly misappropriated $11,764 of the ministry’s funds, was released on strict bail conditions by the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.

Vilive Ratumaisala, who is charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) for allegedly misappropriating the Fiji Education Management Information System (FEMIS) training funds, appeared before Magistrate Asaga Bodaragama.

It is alleged that Mr Ratumaisala dishonestly caused a loss to the Ministry of Education by misappropriating the FEMIS funds, amounting to $11,764, knowing that the loss will occur or a substantial risk of loss will occur to the Ministry of Education.

He was released on $1000 cash bail and two sureties.

A stop departure order was also issued for the accused and he was also ordered to surrender all his travel documents.

Mr Ratumaisala was ordered to report to the nearest police station on the first week of every month.

He will reappear in court on April 4.
