RONALD Dulare Singh, the man who unlawfully killed one Manasa Nawakula in May 2013 in Sigatoka was sentenced to three years imprisonment by the High Court in Lautoka last Friday.
While sentencing Singh who was convicted of manslaughter, Justice Aruna Aluthge said a suspended sentence was warranted only in cases where the offender had used minimum violence causing the deceased to die and where there was extreme provocation.
“There is evidence that you have punched the deceased several times when he was lying down. You have not allowed taking the deceased to hospital,” Justice Aluthge said.
“In the particular circumstances, I do not see any reason why you should not be given custodial sentence,” he said.
Singh will serve two years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
