A 29-YEAR-OLD Nadi truck driver appeared at the Nadi Magistrates Court on a murder charge yesterday after allegedly confessing to the brutal slaying of his wife.
Moneel Yogesh Narayan appeared before Magistrate Siromi Turaga in relation to the gruesome discovery of dismembered body parts found disposed in a well in rural Malamala last weekend.
Yesterday, forensic tests confirmed the remains belonged to Sonika Singh, the 25-year-old wife of Narayan who was reported missing on September 11 this year.
Divisional prosecuting officer west, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anil Prasad strongly objected to bail, citing that the accused had committed an indictable offence.
The affidavit of the investigating officer, detective Vishaal Kumar, was also read in court.
Details in the affidavit highlighted that the accused was living at Malamala with his parents while his wife was living with her parents at Nawaicoba at the time of the incident.
The document also revealed that the accused had confessed to killing his wife in a charge statement to police.
The case will be called in the High Court in Lautoka on October 17. The accused has been remanded at the Natabua corrections facility in Lautoka.
