MOHAMMED Taufiq Yunas lost his life on Thursday after a motor vehicle accident along Foster Rd in Walu Bay, Suva.

This was confirmed in a statement by the Fiji Police Force yesterday.

An emotional Kamrul Nisha (mother of the deceased), said they were shocked when they heard about the incident.

“We got to know of the accident sometime during the day yesterday (Thursday), just after I finished my prayer session,” Ms Nisha said.

Mr Yunas had two sons, the eldest is five years old and the youngest is three years old. Ms Nisha said they would not be able to understand the recent death of their father.

“My grandson asked for his father and was crying so I went to comfort him to sleep and we didn’t know what had happened until my elder son called me and told me that my son was no more,” she said. She said he was a driver for a bottle company in Walu Bay for the past month.

“He was sitting and having lunch in front of the beer factory and was going to cross over to the service station in Walu Bay to buy juice when the bus reversed and hit him,” she claimed.

Ms Nisha said her late son was peaceful in nature.

“He would talk in a loving manner to all our family members and was adored by everybody,” she said.

Police confirmed that he was allegedly hit by a bus driven by a 33-year-old men when he was standing on the side of the road.

“The victim was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery but passed away later in the evening,” police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said.

“The driver remains in custody as investigations continue.”
