Man admits to misusing Help for Homes funds

A MAN charged for the alleged misuse of funds under the Help for Homes initiative pleaded guilty to the offence in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.

Atunaisa Ravatu was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) in February last year with a count of general dishonesty – causing a loss and two counts of general dishonesty – obtaining a gain.

In court, Ravatu admitted to dishonestly causing a loss to Government by misappropriating MPAISA cards which belonged to villagers of Vuna District in Taveuni amounting to $22,231.22 in 2016.

He also admitted to obtaining $1,600in Suva and $2,000 in Sigatoka from the Cash Back promotion given by Vinod Patel Company Limited.

The matter has been adjourned to May 1.
