MACUATA received a rude awakening in their first Skipper Cup competition match against Malolo after they were hammered 20-7 at Subrail Park on Saturday.
Malolo proved too strong for Macuata as they sealed a commanding lead of 14-0 at the end of the first half.
The visiting side drew first blood in the first few minutes of play through a successfully converted try to Veniona Vuki who scored another converted try towards the last minutes of the first half.
Macuata’s Matai Tuberi managed to keep the hosts on the scoredboard after the start of the second half with a try which was successfully converted by lanky Inoke Tuvatuva.
Malolo smothered any hopes for Macuata after sealing their victory with two successful penalties to win the game 20-7.
Macuata coach Gabby Ramabuke labelled the game as a predictable one saying that it was his side’s first game for this year’s competitions.
Ramabuke said that one of the main issues that his side needed to address was their fitness level before they faced Namosi in Viti Levu this week.
Meanwhile Malolo team manager Tevita Sadrata said they were confident of their win against Macuata adding that they were out for a change this year.
