Malolo upsets Tavua

MALOLO inside centre Meli Qainiuci scored a double and helped his team beat Tavua 20-11 during the second round of the Skipper Cup at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka yesterday.
The former Nadroga rep and son of former Fiji rugby rep Tawake Dakunibubului split the Tavua defence in the 28th minute and raced 30 metres to the tryline for his first try which was not converted by Jiuta Lutumailagi
Six minutes later, he pushed away two tacklers and crashed over beneath the posts for his second try, which was converted.
Prior to his tries, Lutumailagi opened Malolo’s account in the 4th minute with a penalty. In the 38th minute, Malolo number eight Atu Kulavere, another former Nadroga player, won a line-out throw and dived over for his team’s third try, conversion missed. Malolo’s front row, led by Salamisa Nagata, laid the platform for the forwards as they steamrolled Tavua in the first 30 minutes
Tavua fly half Tevita Naroyasi kicked two penalties to bring scores 20-6 to Malolo at halftime.
In the second-half Malolo played defensive rugby to counter the opposition’s forward play.
