MEN and women of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) have been reminded to raise and maintain their standards.
This was the message from Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama while officiating at the RFMF Infantry Day celebrations at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on Friday.
Mr Bainimarama reminded the soldiers that self-discipline was fundamental for them.
“To me and others like me, Infantry Day is a day of remembrance, to look back and honour heroes like Sefanaia Sukanaivalu,” he said.
“For infantry women and men here tonight, my message to you is to keep your standards up there and live up to it day in and out.”
Also addressing soldiers gathered at the celebration dinner, Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau told the military personnel they were fortunate to be celebrating the night with President Jioji Konrote who was their commander-in-chief. He said this was something very rare within the RFMF.
“Never forget today. You’re lucky to be dining with your commander-in-chief. This is a beautiful thing,” Ratu Epeli said.
Notable attendees at the celebration included Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs Inia Seruiratu, RFMF Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto, Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho and other senior military officers.
