Madhwan takes senior golf crown

PLANTATION Island Resort golf course designer Ananda Madhwan won the Western Seniors revival tournament at the Nadi Airport Golf Club course yesterday.
At the age of 70 years, Madhwan showed that he still has the will and power to contest against golfers much younger his age to score 40 points in the 18 holes stableford event.
Madhwan, who has been playing the sport for more than four decades, closed the round with a brilliant birdie on the 18th hole. Suresh Prasad finished second with 38 points while Vinod Chauhan finished third with 35 points. Balram Kistaya and Chauhan took out the nearest to the pin prize. Western Seniors last organised a tournament back in 2012. The secretary of the organisation Chandra Segran Pillay said 17 players turned up for the revival event. He said the numbers would certainly grow.
Ram Khelawan hit the longest drive on the 16th hole.
