Macuata cane farmer Akisi Vinaka is the first woman to be appointed to the Board of Directors for the Fiji Sugar Corporation.
Ms Vinaka has been a cane farmer for 23 years and has worked in several districts of the Macuata province on Vanua Levu for the last 24 years.
She was appointed to the FSC board by Minister for Sugar Industry Charan Jeath Singh in concurrence with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
In a Government statement, Mr Singh said Ms Vinaka’s capabilities and experience would build a robust affiliation between the farmers, community, FSC and other sugar industry stakeholders, including the ministry.
Ms Vinaka emphasised the importance of building a bond between the farmers and FSC to provide a better understanding of their challenges.
