INDICATIONS are that Dr Jiko Luveni would continue her role as the Speaker of Parliament.

The Fiji Times understands that discussions on the Speaker of Parliament had started following the swearing-in of FijiFirst party leader Voreqe Bainimarama as Prime Minister for his second term at the State House today.

Under the 2013 Constitution, the candidates, after being sworn in as members of parliament, can appoint a Speaker by a simple majority vote.

According to Section 77 of the Constitution, Parliament must elect a Speaker who is not an MP but who is qualified to be a candidate for election as one.
