KIALA Henri Lusaka mentioned his wife, Jennifer Ann Downes, was having an affair in the Marshall Islands, former United Nations South-West Pacific regional security adviser Charles O’Hanlon told the High Court in Suva yesterday.

He was responding to defence counsel Laurel Vaurasi, who asked if he told Ms Downes that her husband, Mr Lusaka, was a threat to her and there was the possibility of harm to her and her children to revenge what he believed to be a reality, that reality being that Ms Downes was allegedly having an affair.

Mr O’Hanlon said Mr Lusaka mentioned the affair to the police officers who accompanied him to the Service St residence. He also said Mr Lusaka believed someone was trying to poison him. Ms Vaurasi, in another question, asked if these beliefs were cause for his aggression and outrage.

Mr O’Hanlon said he would have agreed with the statement in any other domestic violence case.

“Mr Lusaka showed signs of happiness on his wife’s return, stating she belonged to him and will always be his wife,” he said.

He said Mr Lusaka stated on her return, he would wash out her genitals and she would remain with him and the alleged affair did not worry him.

The trial continues.
