FIJI’S Land Transport Authority is closely monitoring traffic movement on a bridge at Seaqaqa, Macuata, on Vanua Levu following reports of its deteriorating condition.

The LTA team has been stationed at the Vesidrua Bridge for the past two weeks ensuring vehicles using the bridge weighed a maximum of 18 tonnes.

Fiji Roads Authority CEO Jonathan Moore said the LTA team had committed to this task.

“The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has committed to monitor the Vesidrua bridge and continue the enforcement of these weight restriction of 18 tonnes,” Mr Moore said.

“Our latest inspection has indicated that there is deterioration, however, the bridge is still serviceable if drivers observe the load restriction.

“The FRA is preparing to put a temporary Bailey bridge beside the existing bridge.”
