MERESIANA Losalini had only one aim when she left her home in Savusavu last week and that was to return as the FWCC Women’s Sevens Rugby champions.

The form seven student of Napuka Secondary School captained her school to victory over Sacred Heart College 20-19 in the final last Saturday at Suva’s ANZ Stadium.

From hard hitting tackles to setting up tries, Losalini had a bit of everything which mesmerised fans.

In an emotional tone, she said she is hoping that this is a beginning of many more things to come for her.

“I started playing rugby last year. We faced difficulties coming here as we are from far but I told my team let’s use it to our strength.”

“Playing in front of so many fans is something not only me but the whole team will cherish for a very long time. Our school is not one of those big schools but we have proven that you can get things done if you have the will to.”

“I am hoping to get a chance to play for Fijiana in the future. I will work hard and if things go right I hope I will don the national jumper in the coming years.”

Napuka defeated Jasper Williams High School in the semi-final while they beat RSMS in the quarters.

With players like Losalini being identified, the future of women’s rugby in the country looks bright
