THE 30-year-old military officer who allegedly tried to murder his girlfriend says he used some of the money she gave him for “his personal entertainment”.

During cross-examination, Rajiv Krishan Padyachi told the High Court in Suva he took a loan from his “girlfriend” for his personal use and not for business.

He denied taking a loan of $78,700 from November 2017 to July 31 last year, and said this was the sum of money the complainant had spent on him.

He told the court that he agreed to sign a loan agreement so that there would be no further arguments between them, and he promised to pay back the amount by the end of August last year.

He said he paid back the money through her hotel accommodations and travelling expenses and was not in a position to repay the funds – which he said totalled $23,000 in cash.

Mr Padyachi is on trial for the alleged attempted murder of his 37-year-old partner.
