TEAM Fiji captain Inoke Ligairi received the greatest news yesterday while competing at the 2018 South Pacific bodybuilding championship at the Grand Pacific hotel in Victoria parade, Suva.

The Macuata native competed in the 2016 South Pacific Bodybuilding championship in Tahiti in which he won second place in the overall category to Tahiti representative Stephane Matke.

Matke then had a drug test after the show in which he was tested positive, the title then awarded to Ligairi.

Ligairi said the news came as a surprise to him as he did not know of it till Saturday night.

“I obviously did not know about this until tonight (Saturday night). This announcement came a little too late but it’s encouraging to know that Fiji was the rightful winner for that 2016 show.

“This was a good surprise and I am very proud that my hard work back then paid off,” said Ligairi.

The 39 year old said he was positive that there will be more achievements from Fiji Bodybuilding in the near future.

“Fiji has a bright future in bodybuilding; even though it is a minor sport we have the potential to push it to great heights.

“I can say that every year we are getting better and it is our goal to focus on the younger athletes that are coming in,” said Ligairi.

Ligairi also won gold in the under 85 men’s Bodybuilding category at theĀ 2018 South Pacific bodybuilding championship last night.
