OLYMPIAN weight-lifter Apolonia Vaivai will be Fiji’s flag-bearer during the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
This was announced by Team Fiji chef de mission Patrick Bower during the Team Fiji itatau at Borron House in Suva yesterday.
“Apolonia has worked hard in weight-lifting,” Bower said.
“She is a determined girl to go up there and do her best for the country.”
Bower said Vaivai had proven herself in the sport.
“She has done well and done very well by getting a gold medal this year in Australia.
“Apolonia does not only have the ability to perform well, but she will power up to make sure she gets over the line and hits the target which she is after in the competition. She is an accountable girl who sticks to her routine training and her character shows consistency.”
Vaivai and members of the Team Fiji weight-lifting are training in New Caledonia.
The Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4-15.
