ORGANISERS of the 2021 Bumble Bee 5km Levuka Fun Run/ Walk for Life event say it was an overwhelming success.
The one-day event last Saturday was organised by the Ovalau Events Management committee with about 175 participants taking part.
Organisers say the age of these participants range from two to 64 years old. Prizes were awarded for participants who came 1st and 2nd in each category as well as prizes for the best dressed, oldest participant, furthest travelling participant and largest family.
The beautiful weather experienced at the Old Capital on the day saw the participants enjoy the event and all are looking forward to next year’s one.
This year’s event was the 2nd to be organised but it is likely to become an annual event.
The main purpose of the event was to encourage healthy living, family time, and community get-together.
Organisers say they also have Year 12 and Year 13 volunteers from Delana Methodist High School to help with the organisation of the event to give them the opportunity to learn employable skills and to become active members of the community.
The Ovalau Events Management Committee also organised a First Capital Market Day for the residents on Ovalau on that day.
Organisers say the day was an overwhelming success with about 18 vendors ranging in age from 13 years old to 65 years taking part.
The all-female vendors, were mainly from Ovalau while some came from Savusavu and Suva.
This market day will be a monthly event to be held on the first Saturday of every month.
The main purpose of this market day is to provide a platform for selling to develop the local economy.
This would also allow ladies to become financially independent, as well as provide an arena for the women on Ovalau and nearby islands to share business ideas and to help one another.
