Levies to help fund council

THE Tailevu Provincial Council office needs the help of the people of Tailevu to operate effectively.

This was the message to members of the council meeting by the Roko Tui Tailevu, Iliesa Delasau.

Mr Delasau said at the moment the council office was operating through dividends from the Fijian Holdings Ltd and also the rent from tenants at the eight provincial buildings in Nausori and Korovou.

He said there were fears that if dividends from FHL ceased, there were no other sources of income to sustain the day-to-day operations of office. He said after one year serving as Roko Tui Tailevu, he was aware that the people of Tailevu, through the provincial meeting, had agreed to do away with provincial soli which usually assisted in other financial matters.

He said it was only appropriate to re-launch the Tailevu Day to raise money.

Mr Delasau’s motion was endorsed and the decision was made for every person from Tailevu registered in the Vola ni Kawa Bula between the ages of 21 and 55 be levied $50.

He said the people of Tailevu needed to work together during the Tailevu Day.
