Climate change issue

GRETA Thunberg is a 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist who shares her anger, frustration and anxiety about the climate with the world.

She is neither a scientist nor an economist.

She offers no practical solutions to the economic devastation her ideas would cause. She has admirable passion but a wrong thesis.

A Google search of her shows 176 million results.

Contrast this with Boyan Stat, a 23-year-old inventor, who designed the world’s first ocean plastic clean-up system at age 16.

He now leads a group developing advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. His solution involves no economic destruction.

His passion is admirable and his thesis is right but the media is not interested. A Google search reveals 272,000 results.

Biased view

NO matter how hard you try but one cannot hide his bias.

You just have to read between the lines.

It is so obvious when one lectures others to refrain from being a judge, jury and executioner, and in the next breath makes insinuations about the complainant’s side of the story.

Aren’t you being judgmental yourself? If you claim to be neutral then you must be seen to be neutral. Otherwise it is nothing short of hypocrisy.

Power and water

THERE was no power, no water and no radio on air, during the cyclone in our area. This cyclone was only strong wind.

During our younger days we played outside during this size winds. It was nothing much, yet our radio stations, power and water suppliers went to bed early.

Hoping for a better service next time around guys.

Sports remittances

SPORTS has developed from being a leisure activity for entertainment and health to a lifestyle and career path for many individuals.

People have become household names acquiring their riches from wins, salary and endorsements.

The globetrotting sports personalities also send remittances back to their country.

In the Fijian context, if I am not wrong, remittance has become the second largest foreign exchange earner behind tourism.

Rugby and soccer are the two major sports which are played by most males in Fiji. At the moment, they are close to naming the national coaches. Comparatively, Fiji has produced many rugby players who ply their trade around the world. Families and communities benefit from their success.

In monetary terms, rugby offers do not come close to what is put on the table for world class soccer players. Imagine the benefits to our economy if Fiji was able to produce and market soccer players.

Soccer is a sport which can bring millions of dollars our way.

Two sides

IT appears Korina is still upset about why The Fiji Times published Judy Wise’s story on Christmas day.

She still feels that it could have been printed on some other day. She even claimed that it was purposely done to sell more papers.

I cannot rationalise as to why she has taken exception to this particular story when other more serious crimes are also reported on Christmas Day.

If we apply the same logic then no crimes should be reported on Christmas Day as it could dampen the spirit of Christmas for the perpetrator and his family.

They should wait for the next day. But then the following day is Boxing Day.

Rabuka and economy

SODELPA leader and MP Sitiveni Rabuka seems to be a professor in economy very lately which is something I believe he could not do or implement during his term from 1987 until 1999 where he was defeated by the FLP and PANU Coalition.

According to his many outbursts and claims of late in relevant to the way our Minister for Economy is running the show, I believe it is best they get it on via a radio show broadcasted live on the Hindi, iTaukei and our major English channels.

I would like to challenge the shadow Opposition minister to stop the misleading statements with the many allegations and make arrangements with FBC or Fiji One TV for a Q&A on talkback.

Please don’t make excuses or shy away. Let’s get it on as this is about accountability and transparency.

Power outage

ANOTHER annoying and inconvenient power outage at about 4.30pm yesterday. It is very trying and most frustrating.

Power monopoly can be very sickening. General residential customers do not have a choice.

We must save all frozen meat and cooked food, fruit and vegges.

We are retired. no fixed income.
