Tuwai’s moving

Jerry Tuwai is moving on, and good for him.

He has done what he did for Fiji and like many good rugby players they move on while their rugby career is still top class.

He makes way for other Fijian boys to come in and make a name for themselves. Osea Kolinisau and many like him have moved on.

I know, and with their talent they will be in top class teams and earning more than we can pay them.

Go, make a name for yourself, fly the Fiji flag wherever you go.

So to Jerry, may the good Lord always be your guide.

Christmas bonus

This week many businesses will be paying their employees Christmas bonus.

Will the same apply to members of Parliament who showed selflessness and exemplary commitment for 48 hours last week?

Times’ service

First of all, I would like to thank The Fiji Times for the service given to the people of our nation.

It’s not always sports or politics but this paper covers every bit that may interest the public.

At times, we do get discouraged when our letters are not published.

Then again, we realise that there is a panel which screens our letters and the final say is the editor’s.

The Fiji Times is regarded as the people’s paper so please continue with the service and the high standard you always maintained.

Now back to this 48-hour strategic meeting at Suvavou House.

This is a common topic in our town, market and even in wedding functions.

What surprises most of us is that according to our A-G Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, this important meeting was planned about some weeks ago.

I believe the planners knew very well then that the head of Government, our Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the Defence Minister Inia Seruiratu will be out of the country.

Enemies were not about to attack our shores so where is this “emergency”?

Couldn’t they wait for another week to include the two key ministers of our country?

I believe it’s so obvious now that the common people on the street are guessing the purpose of this sudden 48-hour closed meeting.

Many openly say this could be a way to avoid a petition being served by the bailiff within the specified period.

I also believe if there is nothing to hide then face the situation and show the world that the 2018 election was indeed free and fare.

The public will surely accept the court’s rulings if the legal procedure is followed as it should be.

What summon

Mate Pintu asked me what a summon was.

Told him that “summon”(some one) is in trouble.

Cabinet meeting

A decade ago, the Government of Maldives held a cabinet meeting under water to draw urgent global attention to the imminent dangers of climate change and rising sea level.

Now the Government of Fiji too has had an urgent meeting barricaded in a high-rise building to deliberate on “low hanging fruits”.

I am sure that too commanded global attention.

Good laugh

National Federation Party president, Pio Tikoduadua, is absolutely correct in stating that the 48-hour “strategic workshop” is a laughing matter.

I believe this whole issue was instigated by the Opposition by going to court about the election outcome, an outcome that was deemed fair and credible by international observers.

As a matter of fact I believe this whole fiasco is not only laughable, but is a real waste of valuable time and money for all.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, but laughing feels better right now!
