WELLINGTON – The Maori Party has sent an open letter to Prime Minister Tony Abbott condemning the forced closure of Aboriginal communities.
“The Maori Party shares the pain of Australia’s First People who face losing their connection to their ancestral land and the destruction of their communities as a result of Government actions,” party co-leaders Te Ururoa Flavell and Marama Fox said in the letter.
“Mr Abbott, your government’s actions constitute a return to the flawed policies of the past and will result in the loss of basic human rights such as access to clean water and the right to choose where to live.”
