National Federation Party parliamentarian Lenora Qereqeretabua has given her statement to the police over the alleged assault of a bus driver in Labasa.

Ms Qereqeretabua had intervened the alleged assault on Monday afternoon, this week, at the bus station in town.

She had asked the policeman not to use violence in trying to resolve an issue. Ms Qereqeretabua confirmed to this newspaper that she gave her statement at the Labasa Police Station on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said they could not comment any further on this issue until internal investigations were completed.

The policeman has since been suspended from duties and the bus driver, who has appeared in the magistrate court in Labasa, is on bail. On the Westpac issue in which $850,000 went missing while being transported from Savusavu to Suva last month, Ms Naisoro said investigations continued.
