The National Hockey Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva was a hive of activity as the Ariston, Gokals, Whirlpool sponsored 2020 Southern Business House Futsal Soccer League resumed after a lapse of four-months due to COVID-19 restrictions.

In the open category which has a total of 32 teams participating in the series, a total of 15 teams played in the first round of elimination while the second round of elimination games are scheduled for this Sunday following which the games will enter into quarter finals.

Two games each were played under round two schedule in the Philips Lighting/Poly Products veterans division and Unit Trust of Fiji women’s division respectively.

“Quite a few favourite teams missed on the services of their key players who were busy with their district duties in the Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament in Lautoka but we managed to keep the momentum going,” tournament organiser Alan Kumar said.

“The presence of numerous district reps in our futsal league just goes to show the level of competition we can expect in the coming weeks and this is a good way to promote five-a-side soccer in the country,” Mr Kumar added.

“I believe this league series is also an opportune time for national selectors to scout for new players as well.”
