LEGAL Aid Commission support staff were encouraged to educate themselves about national issues especially those that concern the law.

While speaking at the closing of the Annual National Corporate Staff Workshop at the Intercontinental Resort and Spa today, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said it was important for the legal assistants to upskill themselves.

“Even though you are not lawyers, it does not mean you are any less than any key else in the organisation,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“Without you, the lawyer will not be able to function properly.

“In that respect, it is important for you to keep reading and keep learning not only things about your communities but things about the country.

“You okay a very vital role within the Legal Aid Commission so it is important that you keep learning.”

The two-day workshop was attended by more than 100 legal aids from across the country.
