LOCAL professional Sam Lee will focus on the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia after failing to reach the final stage of the 2018 Asian Tour Qualifying School in Thailand.
Lee finished in the 57th position during the first stage qualifying at the St. Andrews 2000 course missing the cut by five strokes.
He finished with nine over par 293 with rounds of 75, 73, 72 and 73.
Lee has a category 11 exemption on the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia and will feature in tournaments in Australia, New Zealand and across the South Pacific.
Fiji Professional Golf Association (FPGA) secretary Amitesh Chandra said Lee would be the top bet during the Dinesh Chand-sponsored Pro-Am tournament which would be played at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club in Nadi next Saturday. Chandra said the professional’s prize pool of $3000 would increase.
“We are starting the 2018 season with a bang hosting a tournament that will see a field of 120 golfers,” he said.
“The course is in perfect condition. Dinesh will be offering coaching clinics in the lead-up to the tournament.”
Japan-based Chand arrives in the country today.
