Lee leads charge at Denarau Pro-Am event

SAM Lee is the frontrunner for the $4000 prizemoney at stake at this weekend’s Temo Consulting sponsored Denarau Classic Pro-Am.
Lee has just returned from Australia after participating in the MMC Northern Territory PGA Championship, which is part of the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.

The 27-year-old will be playing alongside other top local professionals, namely Roneel Prakash and Tomasi Tuivuna.

The duo played at the 2018 Fiji International at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course, where they rubbed shoulders with some renowned international golfers, including former World golf number one Vijay Singh.

Denarau Golf manager Amitesh Chandra said a record field of 120 golfers was expected.

He said this was the first big event after the Fiji International.
“There are lucrative prizes at stake,” he said.

“A total of 14 professionals will be vying for the total $4000 cash prize. It will be distributed to the top ten finishers.

“Abid Hussain will lead the charge in the amateur category. He is preparing for the upcoming Open championships at the various clubs. Isei Waqa will pose a threat to Olaf Allen Jr .

“There is overwhelming response for the Pro-Am and the conditions will be tough.”
The co-sponsors for the event are Sigatoka Electric, Metalworks Engineering and Treasure Island.
