FIJI remains an attractive destination for world travellers despite stiff competition from other markets, says Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa general manager Francis Lee.

Apart from having some of the best beaches and infrastructure, the warmth of the people and the range of activities and level of service provided continue to draw international visitors to the country.

He said Shangri-La was so confident in the Yanuca Island property that it had invested $100 million in a major refurbishment and upgrade that was scheduled to be completed in three weeks’ time.

“We are confident that we will get a return on our investment because we went into this with very careful calculations,” said Mr Lee.

“With the information that we have and the analytical work we have done, Fiji is still the market for tourism.

“Although every now and then we hear about new hotels and resorts being constructed in Fiji, we understand the market is there for us all to share. “We cannot be greedy and make assumptions that it is for us alone because we cannot take on the market requirement on our own.

“The market is there and Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa is ready for the 2019 season and beyond.

“We have gone into this refurbishment very carefully and strategically and we are mindful that the owners would like guests experience levels being met or exceeded with what we have done and would also like to see a return on the investment as well.”
