The Vanua Levu Muslim League has thanked Government for ending the business license policy, made known in the 2020-2021 National Budget.

The league’s trustee and president Bashir Khan described the move as one that would encourage and increase the number of players in the business field.

Mr Khan who is also a business tycoon of Labasa Town said such change also meant business license applicants would not face complicated procedures at municipalities.

“As a businessman, I am so glad because I know the many hiccups we face with the Labasa Town Council so this announcement by the Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is very welcoming,” he said.

“And as president of the league, this new change will work well for our members because we want to economically empower them.
“So having no business license will mean a much easier way of starting our own businesses and in this time of COVID-19 hardship, families need this.”

Mr Khan has also described the 2020-2021 Budget as a tough one that not many cane farmers have accepted.

“We also have cane farmers as members and we feel for them because they deserve that $85 per tonne,” he said.

“Cane farming is their main source of income so they should not have slashed the cane payment.”
