THE Fiji National Rugby League held its women’s 9s second trials to trim down its 32-member squad to 20 at Buckhurst Ground in Laucala Bay, Suva, yesterday.
Women’s coach Peni Tubakibau said he had been monitoring the players to pick his best 15 for the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa.
“The main thing we want to do is instil in the players the knowledge of their roles in the game,” Tubakibau said.
“This is something important for any team which is for them to first understand their individual positions and what important roles they play.
“The players have improved and we are expecting better performance as we move closer to the Pacific Games.”
Former Fijiana 7s players Timaima Ravisa and Roela Radiniyavuni are part of the extended squad.
“We have Fijiana player Timaima Ravisa who has been really good and consistent with training and performance. Roela is also one of our standout players, who the newcomers are looking up to.”
Tubakibau said the trial was an important ingredient in the team’s preparation to the games.
“The three trials are compulsory and important for the girls to attend. If a player misses out on one trial, then she is automatically out of the squad.
“We want to take the best team to the games and do hope we would be able to win a gold medal.”
