MEMBERS of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) have been reminded to refer to The Book of Mormon as a compass to living righteously with their creator.

This was the message from the church’s president, Prophet Russell Nelson while addressing church members at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

Prophet Nelson said The Book of Mormon should be a guide for all LDS Church members.

He said life was made up of the bad and good, but people were given the choice to choose which life they wanted to inherit.

“Our Heavenly Father will not force us to follow Him, the choice is ours — it’s either we follow Him or Satan,” Prophet Nelson said.

“Satan is intelligent and tempts us through essential appetites — we eat what we shouldn’t eat, drink things we shouldn’t drink and love in ways that are forbidden by the Lord which is called lust. But He has given us the ability to choose and He will not force us to come back to Him.”

According to The Book of Mormon, he said the people of Israel were favoured by God.

Prophet Nelson said because of their wickedness, God displaced them across the world, but promised to unite them one day.

The LDS Church leader departed for Tonga straight after addressing his church members.

Some 40 buses loaded with church members had come from various parts of the country to be in Nausori to witness the visit by their religious leader.

Church members had waited at Ratu Cakobau Park from as early as 12 at midday yesterday.
