THE decision to relocate a planned indoor sports facility from Churchill Park to Nadovu Park is linked to traffic and design issues, says Lautoka City Council (LCC) CEO Jone Nakauvadra.

He said preliminary works had commenced in the 2017-2018 fiscal year at Churchill Park but after a rethink, it was moved to Nadovu.

“The reason for this is to support effective traffic management and the space allowance for better planning,” he said.

The CEO said the proposed facility would be built using environmentally-friendly Green Building concepts.

“A lead consultant was hired in August last year and the concept design was prepared.

“The write-up on the project is being prepared and this shall be submitted with design by the council for approval to the Ministry of Local Government in consultation with the Ministry of Economy.”

Mr Nakauvadra said construction was anticipated for July this year.

“Approval is expected by end of February, 2019. Design and documentation are expected to take another four to five months after which construction works is expected to commence.

“Lautoka City Council is ensuring that quality time is spent on planning to ensure an excellent output. The building is expected to have quality architectural outlook.”
