A LAWYER who was allegedly found in possession of illicit drugs, namely methamphetamine, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him in court today.

Shazran Abdul Lateef appeared before Suva Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara.

A bench warrant was issued by the court yesterday after Mr Lateef failed to appear in court.

His counsel Devanesh Sharma today sought apology from the court and said it would not happen again.

Mr Sharma then said there was a miscommunication and that he had noted down the plea date as November 2 instead of October 2.

Mr Lateef is alleged to have been found in possession of 0.0136 grams of methamphetamine on August 7 in Suva.

The court then ordered Mr Lateef to sign a personal bond of $100.

The case has been adjourned to October 25 for pre-trial matters.
