AN audit is presently being conducted to bring to light the delay surrounding the construction of the Lautoka City Council Aquatic Centre.

The new special administrators for the Lautoka, Ba municipal councils highlighted this to more than 10 Lautoka ratepayers at their first-ever ratepayers meeting on Wednesday.

Ratepayer Maud Elbourne asked the newly-appointed special administrators if ratepayers could be made known of the status of the centre that had taken about two years to complete.

Special administrator Beatrice Nast and Renee Duguivalu clarified the status of the construction and informed the ratepayers that there was an outside party engaged to look into the issues surrounding the construction of the centre.

“There are some finance issues with the swimming pool, government has given the money already and an outside party is engaged to look into the issue surrounding this,” Ms Nast said.

“We are also looking into appointing an expert to finish the project.

“We are looking at appointing someone to oversee the construction.”

Ms Duguivalu, a civil engineer by profession, said while they awaited the outcome of the audit, the main works continued at the aquatic centre.

She said the swimming pool needed to be of international standard and there was a lot of work needed to be done.
