THE Lautoka Market Vendors Association is calling on business houses to support them in their effort to totally phase out the usage of plastic bags at the Lautoka Municipal Market.

Association secretary Filomena O’Neil said concerted effort was needed to eradicate the use of plastic bags.

Her comments came in light of yesterday’s distribution of eco bags by HFC Banks to more than 100 vendors.

“Most of us vendors are now selling our products together with the 50 cents plastic bags and a lot of people are buying them,” Ms O’Neil said.

“It would have been better if we are also given eco-bags to sell together with our products and this is one way we can totally phase out the use of plastic bags.
