Lautoka gears up

FORMER Lautoka coach Roblin Autar expects the Vodafone-sponsored Blues team to excel in the 2018 Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League.

The Sugar City side created history after qualifying for the OFC Champions League semi-finals for the first time.

Autar, who coached Lautoka to victories in the 2000 and 2002 Fiji FACT, said the Blues played extremely well against AS Dragon in the quarter-final last Sunday winning 2-1.

He said Lautoka never lost confidence after the Tahitian club drew level in the second spell.

“They pushed up in attack after conceding the equaliser,” Autar said.

“The current coach Kamal Swamy copped a lot of criticism but he has proven his worth.”

Ba has the best record in the regional competition. The Men In Black reached the final of the OFC Champions League in 2007 losing to Waitakere United on home and away goal rules.

Lautoka will host Marist FC in the semi-final at Churchill Park on April 22 at 3pm.
