No completion date for aquatic centre

THERE is no date as yet on when works at the new Lautoka Aquatic Centre will complete before it is fully opened to the public.

Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar said the project was progressing a little slow. “There are some issues with the project, but we got the team working on it,” Ms Kumar said.

“One of the best things that have ever happened is that we got one of the special administrators who is an engineer and it’s good we have special generalised people who can add value to the project so she is looking at the project itself. “We are trying our best to finish the project.”

Mrs Kumar, however, did not wish to comment on when the project was expected to finish, saying she prefers that the special administrators give a date on its completion.

Former Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar had announced the construction of this multi-million dollar project in 2017.

The centre, he revealed, would house an Olympic standard competition pool (50 metres x 10 lanes), a 25-metre lanes warmup pool and a children’s pool with relevant facilities.

The construction of a modern pavilion was expected to be part of the project which he said would cost about $7.3 million.
