BALLANTINE Memorial School is betting on its long distance runners to bring them medals in the Suva zone one competition on March 17 at the ANZ Stadium.

The school had its combined inter-house meet with Lami High School yesterday.

Sports co-ordinator Bereta Laqere said she was happy to see the long distance runners perform.

“I was even shocked to see short distance runners’ intense competitions and we are going to put up a good team for the zone two.

The Talevu native said with her runners’ short time to prepare, she was optimistic the Delainavesi-based team would be there to compete.

“We have twins Laiseana and Merelita Lesumailodoni who are our top bet in the 100m and 200m and 4x100m relay,” she said.

“We are able to gauge our athletes’ performance today and we will go back and discuss our way forward.”

She said the school was also relying on its throwers to get them medals.
