The residents of Lami banded together along the Queen’s Road to protest against air pollution from clinker dust this morning.

Clinker is an ingredient used to make cement and is a hazardous material.

With placards and banners in hand, residents young and old turned out to draw attention to the issue in clusters at Nadonumai, Vugalei, Lami Town, Vatuvia Road and Kalekana.

Lami resident Johannah Mitchell said they just wanted to breathe clean air.

Police officers from the Lami Police Station dispersed residents for standing on the footpath and holding up their placards to peacefully demonstrate their frustrations about the poor quality of the air they are forced to breathe and the cause of it.
