LABOUR and occupational health and safety inspectorates in Fiji will no longer carry inspection files but instead will carry tablets to conduct their inspections.

This was discussed during the Paperless Labour Inspection Consultation by the Ministry of Employment with the Labour Inspection Specialist, Rene Robert, from the International Labour Organization in Bangkok, Thailand.

The meeting in Bangkok saw the two parties working on a policy framework that will see a transition from a manual inspection to a computer-based or e-based inspection system.

The ILO team commended the Fijian Government in having a robust labour inspection program and for having the will to enhance their operations through the introduction of paperless inspection for the work of the ministry.
