A Labasa man who went out to check the rising water level of the Batinikama River during heavy rain last week did not return home.
Instead, police found his body lying motionless on the bank of the Vunimoli River on Saturday morning.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said when the 55-year-old man failed to return home, his son went to look for him.
“His son went to check on him and found his father’s torch on the river bank, so a search was conducted and the body was found by the Vunimoli River bank,” she said.
“A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.”
