HAVING the 2017 Inkk Battle of the Giants (BOG) finals in Labasa is something that is long overdue for North football fans.
Labasa coach Gurjit Singh made this comment after their 4-0 thumping of Rakiraki in yesterday’s second round match at Subrail Park.
The hosts have confirmed their spot in the semi-finals through a hat-trick to Christopher Wasasala and a lone goal to Jonetani Buksh in the dying stages of the first half.
This solidifies their hometown’s chances of hosting the 2017 BOG semis.
Given that Fiji Football Association acting president Tarunesh Reddy had earlier indicated that they would consider having the finals in the North should Labasa qualify for the finals.
“If the people of Labasa wants us to bring tournaments to Labasa, we are committed and we will bring it down.
“At the same time, we need their support,” he said.
“We have to see the performance of the whole team and after the full three days of competition, the Fiji FA board will sit down and consider coming to the North for the semi-finals.
“That will be decided by the board and it is an extreme possibility for Labasa.”
The home team’s progress sees the hopes of a whole district let alone the whole island of Vanua Levu rise given that the hosting of the 2017 BOG tournament is well within their grasp.
