The airport in Labasa which was closed for three weeks to allow runway upgrade and maintenance works will re-open this Thursday for business.

Fiji Airports chairman Geoffrey Shaw said the investment of $3.2 million was used to upgrade the Outer Island Airports over the last 10 months.

“The Labasa Runway and Apron Upgrade works are part of our previously committed and continuous efforts to improve air connectivity between our islands and the mainland. Fiji Airports carried out the $1.7 million project to improve the runway surface and to expand the Labasa Airport apron,” explained Fiji Airports Chairman, Geoffrey Shaw.

“These runway infrastructure improvements come at a substantial cost but underline our commitment to developing our outer island airports into the future. Our passengers flying in and out of Labasa can do so with greater comfort knowing of these upgrades to the airport facilities.”

The upgrading works would be completed next month.
