JOSEPH Kwadjo is aiming for his first Fijian boxing title when he faces Savenaca Naliva in the much anticipated Southern Boxing Promotion light heavyweight title fight next month.

The 33-year-old, who hails from Ghana, has been fighting in Fiji and also represented the nation in the past years but this will be his first title under the newly formed Boxing Commission of Fiji officials if he wins.

Kwadjo has a wealth of experience under his belt winning 24 fights with 19 by way of knockouts and 11 losses since his debut in 2003.

He has also defeated fighters such as the late Joy Ali, Joeli Naleca and Opeti Tagi here in Fiji and will want to maintain his unbeaten record on home soil. South Pacific Boxing director Mohammed Shameen said Kwadjo has been working hard to return to the ring after being involved in a car accident two years back.

“He is committed and determined to stamp his mark again in the boxing ring after being out of the game for two years,” said Shameen.

“This fight will be a huge moment for him as he will be out to win his first Fijian boxing belt. Kwadjo has been training hard to win.”

Shameen said the fight would be a huge exposure for Naliva.

He said Naliva would also want to win the title and had been training hard at Sorokoba. “Naliva is slowly coming up the ranks and this will be a huge mountain for him to climb. But he comes from a boxing family and will want to make his loved ones happy,” he said.

Naliva is the son of the late Fijian heavyweight champion Filimoni Naliva. Shameen said there would be other explosive bouts featuring Abhay Chand, Jese Ravudi, Tomu Gaunavou, Filimoni Naliva Jr to name a few.

The program to be held at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park on February 9.

Fixtures: Kwadjo vs Naliva, Ronald Naidu vs Rakuro Daunivavana, Abhay Chand vs Nereo Cakautini, Jese Ravudi vs Iisikeli Senidoko, Tomu Gaunavou vs Tevita Sete, Robin Hezelmen vs Robert Kustel, Petero Qica vs Isikeli Navuni, Rupeni Nasaku vs Vitori Natawake, Serupepeli Vuniyayawa – Filimoni Naliva Jr, Karina Singh vs Visila Kolitapa.
