VODAFONE Fiji rugby under-20 player Simione Kuruvoli’s sporting prowness continues to excel after being selected in Senirusi Seruvakula’s Swire Shipping Fiji Warriors squad.
The namesake and grandson of former national judoka Simione Kuruvoli who represented Fiji at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics is one of 10 players from this year’s Vodafone Fiji under-20 team named in the team preparing for the World Rugby U20 Championship that will be held in Argentina later this year.
“These are the players who have already sealed their positions in the under-20 squad for the World Cup and all deserved their spots in the Fiji Warriors squad.” said Seruvakula.
Joining Kuruvoli from the under-20 squad to the Fiji Warriors camp are Caleb Muntz, Osea Waqa, Livai Natave, Luke Tagi, Fabiano Navabale, Veramu Dikidikilati Filimoni Savou, Tira Wilagi and Saimoni Uluinakauvadra. Kuruvoli, 19, from Nabouwalu Village on Ono Island, Kadavu has been involved in many sports such as football, judo AFL, rugby league and now rugby union.
All sports he has played such as judo and rugby league has aided him in improving his skills in rugby, especially in his defence and ball work, football to improve precision with his kicking and AFL has helped him finetune his aerial skills and ball contention.
Seruvakula believes that players such as Kuruvoli and the other under-20 players have the quality of play needed and a huge chance of making the Fiji Airways Drua and newly formed Fiji Latui. The Warriors will plays their first game against Tonga A on Friday 5pm at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
The Warriors had a training session at the Bidesi Ground in Laucala Bay, Suva yesterday.
