FIJI Warriors centre Penasio Kunabuli hopes to extend his rugby career if given a chance in the World Rugby Pacific Islands combined team.
Kunabuli is part of the 30 players chosen to be part of the one-week camp.
The Votua, Nadroga lad said making his debut with the Fiji Warriors it was a blessing for him as he struggled to be given a chance in the national team.
“When I first joined Navosa rugby club competition I never knew any skills in rugby. We were all struggling to play rugby, but I am glad that we had the Nadroga rugby officials on our side teaching us some basic techniques,” he said.
“Now being chosen to play for Fiji my knowledge of rugby has expanded and we’re learning new things thanks to World Rugby for coming and teaching us.”
Kunabuli acknowledged the move headed by World Rugby to help Pacific players identify their skills.
The best players will be chosen to join Super Rugby clubs, ITM, Mitre 10 and clubs in the Australia National Rugby Championship.
“We have a lot of talent especially here in Fiji. Every person you meet can talk about or play rugby.
“With this project it will help us aspiring rugby players achieve our dream to one day represent our country in the Rugby World Cup.”
The 26-year-old thanked his coach Senirusi Seruvakula for having faith in him and the other 10 players who are part of the squad.
