Proper facilities will be built at the three jetties on Vanua Levu. Local Government Minister Premila Kumar said the jetties included Savusavu, Taveuni and Nabouwalu.

“We will also upgrade and maintain the sheds at the jetties to provide proper facilities not only for passengers to relax and wait for the ferry, but to encourage vendors to sell food by using the facilities,” she said.

“We want to encourage vendors to sell in the shed and grow economically, as this will boost economic activities in the community.

“It is our commitment to providing Fijians with proper facilities wherever they are, as the sheds will further allow more vendors to sell from the waiting shed, ensuring economic development.”

Apart from such developments, Mrs Kumar said the Government continued to support projects in municipalities.

“While the municipal councils aim to build more infrastructure in their municipalities, they are encouraged to foster economic growth and developments by ensuring that natural assets continue to provide the resources and environmental services on which our wellbeing relies.”
