FijiFirst party member and Employment Minister Parveen Kumar told devotees at a temple in Field 40, Lautoka on Saturday “if we have political stability, we will be able to sit down like this, together without any fear”.

Mr Kumar, also the interim chairman of Sangam Fiji, was invited to speak at the Field 40 Gangaiyamman Kovil annual firewalking ceremony and pooja.

“We all want to live in this country with peace and harmony,” he said, speaking in Hindi.

“If we want peace and harmony, then we also have some obligations.

“As a citizen of this country, at times you have to take the right step.

“Take the road that has truth, even if the road is not smooth. If by walking on that road you will get the truth, then take that road.

“That’s why everywhere I go, even in temples, I have emphasised that the political stability which this country enjoys is very much needed.

“Because if we have political stability, we will be able to sit down like this, together without any fear, we will be able to do the same in the coming days. We can continue conducting our prayers with dhoom dhaam (grandioseness).

“I pray and plead with you that don’t get involved in small discussions and nonsense talk.

“You are all educated and use your best judgment before taking the steps.”
