Getting vaccinated will become mandatory for travel overseas, says Employment Minister Parveen Kumar.

In a statement released yesterday, he said getting the jab was already a requirement for Fijians under the Pacific Mobility Labour Scheme and would be extended to anyone travelling outside of Fiji to work.

“The FijiFirst Government has committed to roll out the vaccination with due regard to the rights of all Fijians,” he said.

“At the same time, the Government, based on sound science and medical advice, has pleaded with all Fijians to be vaccinated.”

Mr Kumar said the current lockdowns and containment areas would not be necessary once all Fijians were vaccinated.

“The ministry continues to work with all stakeholders to ensure that we strive towards a collective work environment that is COVID-safe and a Fiji that is fully vaccinated against this terrible disease.

“Full vaccination for all Fijians is the scientific and medically proven way towards reopening our villages, towns, cities and workplaces, ultimately our borders so that all Fijians can exercise their freedom in a new normal.”
